The high power bottom-emitting vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) and laser arrays emitting at 980 nm are reported. Extensive investigations on size scaling behavior of thermal properties of single devices show limits of attainable output characteristics. The maximum continuous wave (CW) output power at room temperature of single devices with aperture size up to 500 m is as high as 1.95 W. The key characteristics such as maximum output power
wavelength and thermal resistance are discussed. The bottom-emitting arrays of 16 elements and 200 m aperture size of individual elements show output power of CW 1.35 W at room temperature. The far-field angle is below 17 for all driving current
which is very favorable for focusing or collmating optics.

A new glass of Lu2O3-B2O 3-SiO2-Na2O-Er2O3 system is prepared by the technique of high-temperature melting at different temperatures and the formation range of the glass is experimentally obtained. Effects of the B2O3 content on the infrared spectral properties such as the 1.5 m emission bandwidth corresponding to 4I13/2&rarr4I15/2 transition and the Judd-Ofelt parameter t (t = 2

6) of Er3+ ions in the glass has been observed. The glass exhibits big integrated emission cross sections for the 1.5 m emission band. Excellent thermal stability of the glass has been demonstrated using differential thermal analysis. The Er 3+-doped lutetium borosilicate glass is a great candidate for broadband erbium doped fiber amplifiers.

Reaction Bonded (RB) SiC mirrors due to their excellent specific stiffness and thermal properties have been widely used in space telescopes. However
polishing large SiC aspherical mirrors is difficult compared to other materials such as fused silica or Zerodu. In addition
surface roughness of the polished SiC mirrors is limited by the defects of the materials and needs to be improved by means of surface coating technique. This paper introduces the current progress of large SiC aspherical mirrors manufacturing and testing in CIOMP. In particular
the procedures of making large off-axis aspherical mirrors were discussed in detail. A proprietary computer controlled optical surfacing (CCOS) technique was utilized to grind and polish the mirrors and the computer aided null test was used to measure the surface figure. As results
a 600mm class off-axis SiC aspherical mirrors was demonstrated with figure error less than 13nm rms.
