La NMR probe of intra- and interlayer spin correlations in La1.2Sr1.6Ca0.2Mn2O7 above T-C

英文摘要Intra- and interlayer spin correlations inside each MnO2 bilayer in naturally layered La1.2Sr1.6Ca0.2Mn2O7 above T-C have been investigated by means of La-139 nuclear magnetic resonance. The ferromagnetic fluctuations of intralayer Mn spins, with a correlation size of two Mn ions and a correlation time of 10(-13) similar to 10(-12) s, appear far above the Curie temperature and they slow down with decreasing temperature. Most interestingly, we have found NMR evidence of the dynamically coherent fluctuations (possibly canted or antiferromagnetic) between Mn spins in two neighboring planes within each bilayer below 290 K above which the fluctuations from these two planes are incoherent.
