英文摘要Seamounts are geographically isolated, substrate -rich and highly heterogenetic habitats, where little is known about the population shifts and assembly mechanism of the local microbial communities. In this study, microbes in the sediments across a series of seamounts along the island arc of the Yap and Mariana trenches were investigated via high -throughput sequencing. Clear distance -decay distribution was revealed in a horizontal scale among different seamounts, and in a vertical scale from the summit to the base of seamounts. This biogeography was mainly driven by the deterministic process, although the contribution of stochastic process progressively increased from the summit to the base of seamounts. In addition, higher levels of prokaryotic abundance, diversity, and niche width in the seamounts than the Challenger Deep were observed as well, further proved seamounts as deep oasis for microbes. Spatial heterogeneity of microbial community connectivity among/intra seamounts was demonstrated as well, might be shaped simultaneously by the hydrogeographic variables and the limitation of ocean current dispersal. Overall, this study contributed new insights into the mechanism controlling the microbial community assembly, provide base for future exploration of ecological functions of microbes living in this extreme biosphere.
