英文摘要PURPOSE:To obtain a laser module which has high reliability with reduced variation in coupling efficiency by providing a process for applying an ultrasonic wave to a metal welding material. CONSTITUTION:Before the optical fiber is welded and fixed with the metal welding material 14, the optical fiber 6 is fixed on a ceramic plate 15 which is as thick as a heat sink 2 whose surfaces are both metallized previously. Then an ultrasonic wave is sent to the metal welding material through a heater chip 13 and then the optical fiber can securely be welded while heat is prevented from being radiated from the welded surface by the heat insulation effect of the ceramic plate and a support part 12 which is thin enough to form a gap with the case 4. Then even when the position of the optical fiber 6 is adjusted, a rise in the temperature of the semiconductor laser 1 is reduced to obtain a large light output and the difference in coefficient of heat expansion between the heat sink 2 and metal 3 is compensated to reduce variation in coupling efficiency due to the difference between operation temperature and ordinary temperature after fiber fixation and variation in the ambient temperature of the product. Consequently, the laser module with excellent temperature characteristics is obtained.
