英文摘要	Metapelites from the High Himalayan Crystalline Sequence (HHCS) and the North Himalaya Gneiss Dome (NHGD) have experienced upper amphibolite to granulite facies metamorphism. They consist dominantly of Al-rich gneiss with subordinate K-rich granitic gneiss, marble, and mafic granulite. Major and trace element data on a suite of the Himalayan metapelite show that (1) they are enriched in LILE and LREE relative to HFSE and HREE, respectively; (2) they have high contents of total REE, and substantial negative Eu anomalies; and (3) some samples have weak but recognizable negative Ce anomalies. These data as well as petrographic observations suggest that their protoliths are aluminum-rich felsic sandstone, quartzose sandstone and terrestial clays. Such an association formed at a shallow marine environment close to a continental margin. The Himalayan metapelites strongly resemble those khondalites from the Altyn terrane and the West Kunlun in the maximum metmorphic grade, over all geochemistry, and population of zircon grains. Such similarities suggest that the Himalayan metapelite is another suite of khondalite formed at the Gondwana continental margin during Neoproterozoic time.
