中文摘要monomeric carbohydrates are the most important starting materials for the production of biofuels and bio-based chemicals. however, carbohydrates are more widely presented as polymers such as starch, cellulose, hemicellulose and chitin. because cellulose and hemicellulose exist routinely and concurrently with lignin as found in lignocellulosic biomass, and cellulose forms a highly crystalline structure due to the presence of extensive intra- and inter-molecular hydrogen bonds and van der waals interactions, it remains a major challenge for cost-effective hydrolysis of (lingo)cellulosic materials. extensive efforts have been devoted to depolymerizing cellulose and related natural materials. these included acidic hydrolysis, enzymatic hydrolysis, hydrolysis in supercritical water and oxidative or reductive depolymerization. however, most of these works performed reactions under heterogeneous conditions, i.e., solid cellulosic materials in aqueous media, which made the reaction inefficient. we demonstrated that hydrolysis of cellulose and cellulosic materials could be realized much more efficiently to give reducing sugars in ionic liquids under mild conditions (100 ºc, 1 atm), yet no pretreatment process was necessary. thus, total reducing sugar yields of 71%, 66%, 74%, 81% and 68% were obtained for cellulose, corn stalk, rice straw, pine wood and bagasse, respectively, under typical conditions in the presence of mineral acids. in addition, we showed that acid-promoted hydrolysis of chitosan in ionic liquids could give total reducing sugars in over 60% yields in the presence of about 6.0 wt% concentrated hydrochloric acid at 100 ºc within 7 h. we will also present our preliminary results on separation of ionic liquids from monomeric carbohydrates, and the most recent results in related areas. taken together, hydrolysis of biomass in ionic liquids should be a powerful technology to advance production of biofuels and chemicals form renewable resources.
