Thermal conductivity of unsaturated mixtures of loess soil with granulated rubber

英文摘要Addition of rubber pellet to loess soil can improve the mechanical and thermal property of loess, providing a potential utilization in road foundation against frost heave. This paper reports the results of thermal conductivity test on unsaturated Granulated Rubber and Loess soil Mixtures (GRLM) compacted at various densities and moisture contents by Hot Disk Thermal Constants Analyzer. Test results show that the thermal conductivity of GRLM decreases with increasing rubber content, and increases with increasing moisture content and compacted effort at rubber content less than 20%. A theoretical model is established to describe the conductive heat flow through unsaturated GRLM with modification of four-phase composition to solid mixtures of rubber pellets and mineral particles. The model function is verified to be reasonable for practical application by the good correlation between predicted and measured thermal conductivities.
