| 英文摘要 | 于新娟，上海外国语大学马克思主义学院教授，历史学博士。; 【中文摘要】在开放的国际贸易背景下，中外之间的贸易往来日益频繁，洋商带来了国际市场通行的市场经营方式，江南棉商承袭业界成规，与国际市场的贸易规则发生碰撞，遇到了前所未有的新问题。国际市场对棉花品质要求的标准化、棉花加工包装的机械化、市场运行机制的规范化和市场信息传播的便捷，对江南棉商提出了新的挑战；同时全球性商品竞争和国际贸易规则的示范和刺激也为棉商提供了发展契机。江南棉商抓住机遇困中求变，规范行业健康发展，模仿学习国际先进的经营方式。其近代遭遇一定程度上是中国传统商业向近代变迁的缩影，其演变发展的动力既有来自西方文明的示范和挑战，也与自身的生存环境和所具有的独特内涵密切相关，是外在冲击与内在逻辑的合力推动。 【Abstract】With the opening of international commerce in modern times，trade between China and the outside world steadily increased. However，the enforcement of new trade rules imposed by foreign merchants soon led to Chinese cotton traders' friction with international trade regulations，posing unprecedented challenges to Chinese merchants. Strict requirements for quality，standardization and mechanization in the cotton industry compelled Chinese cotton merchants to understand the market mechanism and its methods of information dissemination. In the meantime，the competition between Chinese merchants and their foreign rivals opened up development opportunities for the Chinese. To seize such opportunities and get out of the business predicament， Chinese merchants abandoned their antiquated management philosophy and embraced advanced Western business principles.
