Through studying the appearance, development and current classification system, this paper tries to discuss the object, method and implement of land classification in the zoning, which will help to improve the land classification in the background of market economy in China. The urban land classification of the United States is based on the principle of separation of the un-compatible uses and promotion of the reasonable land use, through which zoning provides lots of possibility for the future land development.
