中文摘要Reverse engineering (RE) Design is to determine dimensions of an object that already exists and to manufacture copies with the same dimensions accordingly. In this paper, reverse engineering design was carried out for an engine part with a complicated cavum structure. With traditional RE method, laser is used to scan and measure the real components. But it can only scan the profile and simple holes of the component. For components with complicated cavum structure, the laser scan method will fail. The component discussed in this paper is a vehicle engine with complicated cavum structures. Its components contain more than 20 large holes, more than 50 smaller holes with diameters less than 10 mm. The RE design is carried out as follows. Firstly, the CT photos are taken by scanning the engine part with cavum structures. Secondly, the CT photos are imported into medical software MIMICS, and are transformed to STL format point cloud model. Lastly, the STL format point cloud model is imported to large design software CATIA. The point cloud is transformed to a 3 dimensional solid model by reverse engineering design function in CATIA. By this method, the part with cavum structures can be reversely designed. Because the precision of CT photos is low, the 3 dimensional engine model is not perfectly satisfactory, and post processing should be made before it could be used in the real machine engineering.
